On Friday, March 21, 2008, at 2:15 p.m. Madisyn McGee Kemp left the arms of her earthly mother and father and went to be her heavenly Father, The Lord Jesus Christ, the only person who could possibly love her more than Her earthly parents. Madi has fought a strong fight for over 3 years now but as we knew going into this fight it was bigger than us. The joy and gifts that she brought to us can never be taken away despite this horrible disease.

In her short life Madi touched many lives, including other SMA children and their families, and a long list of friends, caregivers and even strangers moved by her story. Madisyn is survived by her parents, Brandon and Patti (McGee) Kemp, and little sister, Bryanna, of Concord; her grandparents Cindy "Honey" (Gary) Keller, Pelham; and John T. Kemp, Moundville; her great-grandmother Dru Kemp of Crestline; her uncle Jim McGee, Odenville; her aunts Hollie (Robby) Farmer, Columbus, GA; Colleen (Joe) Hartz, Chelsea; Ruth (Chris) Searchfield, Alabaster; Lauren Kemp and Katie Kemp, Clay; and her great aunt, Kathy Kemp, Crestline. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Robert and Mavis McGee; her great-grandmother Charlotte "Nana" Crotser; and her great-grandfather Louie D. Kemp. We ask all of you to continue lifting us up in prayer and keep fighting to one day defeat SMA.

The family thanks the loving staff of Children's Hospital for their care of Madisyn. Spinal Muscular Atrophy affects the motor neurons of the spinal cord and brain stem, weakening the muscles for swallowing, breathing and moving. It affects about one in 6,000 babies and currently has no cure.
